When Willa was 16 she found herself wandering around her house one last time before leaving it forever. She found herself in the kitchen, about to open the refrigerator so she could get one last look at the peach pie her grandmother made. The next thing Willa knew, she was in a place of complete darkness. There was no way of knowing where she was, what time it was or even if she had a body anymore. She had become a ghost. She immediately started to panic because being able to see herself would have made life so much easier for her just then. She tried to fly off into the blackness but felt herself bouncing off of something invisible instead of passing through it like she wanted it to happen. She was trapped in the void. This place of darkness is known as The Shadowlands or The Shadowlands of Willa Wisp, and she would find herself in it quite often for the next six years of her life. Over the next few months, Willa would realize that this dark place is actually where all people go when they die; it's where people who are buried in cemeteries go to when they die. She had gained a new level of understanding about death and what happens while we are still alive, but not while we are dead. The Shadowlands seems to be just like any other world, only that the entire landscape is gray. It has neighborhoods with houses, stores, movie theaters and even bars. There are people wandering around out in the streets, but they all seem to be in some sort of stupor. When people die they leave their physical body behind, which she can see if she turns her head to look at them. All of the characters in Shadowland are there because their physical forms are still here on Earth—this is the only way that Willa can understand why people are still there after death unless they have left their bodies behind for some reason she does not yet know about. She would sometimes see other ghosts in the streets, but they were always unhappy and depressed. They would wander around looking for the people they died to see; often they would try to run into them, but seemed held back by some invisible force. However, once in a while she did get to see other beings like herself; these were ghost children that had come down from Heaven after their deaths. Willa was fascinated by them and learned that they were called "the angels". There was one child who seemed especially eager, and she allowed herself to be seen by Willa because he was wanting her to help him find his father. This little boy's name was Ghost Jr., and he had come down from Heaven with his mother. cfa1e77820
