In this series, The Blades of Chaos were a weapon that could summon a demon that was used only by Kratos, until the events of God Of War 3, Kratos actually had access to the blades once again after he destroyed them at the end of God Of War 2. He gained a new weapon in this game, the Cestus, a pair of gauntlets that granted him immense strength. In this version Kratos gains full access to the Blades of Chaos again. He has been stripped from his godhood and demigod powers and given a mortal form, just like he was at the beginning of the series. While the weapons look different from their original God Of War 2 versions, they have limited power until you upgrade them by collecting red orbs from fallen enemies. As well as being able to use the blades again Kratos can also use a secondary weapon called "The Army Of Sparta". The Army Of Sparta can be used up to three times, but the more you use them the less powerful they are. Over time they become less effective and weaker each time you use them. The Army Of Sparta are based off of the Spartan soldiers that Kratos was commanded by in God Of War 2, along with the Blades Of Chaos. Kratos finds himself trapped in a realm known as "the Dark Island", which serves as an analog to Limbo, the realm where Kratos spent most of God Of War 2. Ares, the main antagonist of this game, wants to use Kratos' power of Pandora's Box to unleash Hell onto the Earth. This is the first time that Ares has appeared as an antagonist in any game. This game features graphic nudity and violence, just like the previous installments in the God Of War series, for which it earned an M rating by the ESRB. God of War 3 is a video game based on Greek mythology that was developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in April 2010 for PlayStation 3.
